You too, invent your "new light"
by coalize ini had this idea of topic when john aquila made me laugh in one of his post when he said : new light!the governing body has the right to have sex with all the new virgins that get baptized before they get married.. and then i've decided to open this topic to ask this (stupid but funny) question : if you was in the gb, what's the "new light you will want to fight for?

There was a JW who was a born in and faded about 10 years ago near a congregation I attended. He never married or had children and was in his late 30's. His parents shun him for the most part but then he had a major stroke. His parents are now his care providers, and they take him to meetings. He has had memory issues but is slowing making progress.
I also knew of a sister that was DF and was in a major car accident many years ago, and same thing happened to her. Her parents became guardian and got her reinstated and is now attending meetings. But she is not the same person and has a limited mental capacity.

Name "UNWRITTEN" Rules That JWs Are Supposed To Follow
by minimus inas with the scribes and pharisees, there are a number of unwritten rules that witnesses are supposed to follow.
here's a couple : "worldly" kids in society depictions are shown quite often wearing their baseball caps backwards.
jehovah's witness youths would not want to imitate that "look".

The WT are very simplistic and I see no reason to underline them. However, I find it useful for college ebooks. I'm able to sort all my highlighted text into several pages of study material.
Years ago when I was active I would just take a yellow highlighter and mark my WT for appearance purposes. That was one of the rules I had to obey or I would be labeled bad association.

Help me identify a small cyst...
by pronomono ini'm having problems identifying a small cyst that i get every once in a great blue moon.
i like to call it a lollipop cyst because it looks like a really small lollipop.
so, it's basically a small cyst at the tip of a really small shaft (not my penis).

I see skin tags a lot on the elderly patients I take care of. They're rather common and harmless. We have a dermatologist that comes on site to remove them, but I think they can be freeze off like a wart. -

How do you manage to keep JW friendships after you left the organization?
by Bonsai init seems incredibly difficult.
those who leave the org.
(or fade) no longer have anything in common with jehovah's witnesses, nor do they want to stick around to get radiated by the fear and guilt that saturates every aspect of a witnesses' life.. i've lost all but one of my jw friends quite simply because i can no longer condone the evil things that they condone.

I left so long ago and moved when I left. I would of only wanted to keep one of my former friends, but his family are uber dubs. I tried last year making contact but it involved meeting up at his parent's home. He is 39 and his parents are in their late 70's.
I was given grief for marrying a Catholic. Ummm I've been inactive for nearly 15-20 years, what did they expect.
I don't know how you keep a friendship with a JW without being one.

October 15th Watchtower - Now We Know Who's Responsible!

These JW helpers I think are the next in line for future GB. They've been around for 20 years now but I didn't really know about them till last year when I visited a convention.
One of these helpers gave a talk and he was so full of himself. It was nauseating watching so many flock around him during lunch. It was as if he was some magical holy man. It was my first convention in 12-15 years and was disgusting what I saw there. Also I didn't notice that many young ones. It was either children or middle age ones, but very few in their twenties or thirties.

camping information.
by James Brown inmy wife and i are planning on taking a year off and taking a jeep and a camper through all the 48 contiguous states and alaska and some of canada.. living in florida, i have always had guns and a concealed carry permit.
but researching for our upcoming retirement vacation, it seems to me that i might not be able to legally carry firearms on my upcoming expedition.. it seems every state has different laws and licenses.
what does a camper from florida do when he goes to new york or california?

I'll be honest I haven't read all the replies but just skimmed through them. I would take up the suggestion given of just carrying a shotgun. Remember the guy who had an unloaded, disassembled hand gun in his trunk was given 7 years in New Jersey. But I think New Jersey and other states allow people with legally owned guns to travel through their states.
The gun laws I feel in this country are confusing as they can vary by state, city, and county. Then also I would imagine that federal parks have rules on guns too?
Here is a good article that is only a few months old.

James, I want to do the same thing when my house is paid off. It will probably be another 7 years for me. Do us a favor and when you actually start your trip start a separate post about your experience. I would be interested in your trip and where you went.
Thanks

How strong were you in “The Truth?”
by John Aquila inwhen you were still asleep in the watchtower organization and had no idea of ttatt.
what would you have done if you were in a serious accident and all of a sudden you woke up in the emergency hospital room with all the brothers and sisters at your side and your spouse cheering you on to be faithful to jehovah.
then the doctor comes up to you and tells you that you are about to go into surgery because there is no time to lose and the only way to live is to take a blood transfusion ?

I became inactive at about 18 and would taken the blood. Prior to that it would probably be up to my parents. However from age 13-17 if I had the choice I wouldn't of taken the blood. -

Charity
by aintenoughwiskey inwe know the wt interpretation of matt 25:40 is support of the anointed.
since most of us here are no longer in that situation, what, if any forms of charity are you involved in?
sorry for the awkward framing of the question, it's not meant to imply atheists, or non-christians are not charitable!

I've done fund raising for cancer research, and also volunteered my time one year doing tax preparation for the elderly and poor.
But now I mainly do volunteer work for an emergency squad. I only do one 8 hour shift a month but sometimes I'm involved in saving a life. I also get a lot back from the organization such as training and on hand experience.
I knew of JWs that would donate to red cross and shriner's hospital. I found the JWs as individual were more generous than the organization they worship.
